Avalon
Since we began in 2014, we’ve grown to become the biggest provider of planning and heritage advice in the South West. We also have specialist teams for heritage and archaeology, and unique homes services for domestic developers. Many projects involve a mix of advice spanning all of our different expert teams.

People with purpose
Our people are at the heart of our business. They make us who we are.
Individually, we are experts in our fields. Together, we are united in our passion for doing good work that makes us proud and our clients happy.
This includes placing heavy emphasis on sustainability, and sensitivity to the community and environment in which any scheme is situated. That’s not the case for every consultancy in our field, and we’re proud of that difference.
CSR – Doing good things together
We do good work, but we also do good. It’s a big part of who we are as a business. From working pro bono for inspirational causes, to treading as lightly as we can on the planet, giving back has always been part of what we do.
Parklife Café
When the residents surrounding Exeter’s Heavitree Park created a board of volunteers to help crowdfund, design and take through planning a scheme for a new café and community space, we were thrilled to be part of such a passionate team.
Four years on, we’re so happy to see the Parklife Café now thriving in Heavitree Park and it’s also attracting a raft of award nominations, a great success, created by a fantastic community team.
Planners Beyond Boundaries
We’re so proud to be founding members of the RTPI’s new member’s group ‘Planners Beyond Boundaries’. Connecting town planners across the Globe, we’re thrilled that PBY is currently supporting Ukrainian development professionals to find temporary new roles across Europe, until they such time as they are able to return to rebuild their own homeland.
Exeter Bicycle Breakfast Club
Avalon launched the Bicycle Breakfast Club in 2017, to organise fun breakfast-time rides each month, where riders of all abilities are welcome. The EBBC is less about networking and more about having a good time with new friends out on the road, and hoping everyone gains more confidence to get out and about on their bikes!
Making Ethical Choices
We take our carbon footprint and business ethics pretty seriously. When you meet us on site, we will always try our best to have reached you either on foot, by bike, train or using a pool car. We have eliminated 98% of single use plastics in our day-to-day work and we strive to be paper free. Our offices form part of a co-working space, where we have the ability to work with electric suppliers powered by sustainable technologies. And when we’re researching planning histories for you, we’re using Ecosia as our search engine, not Google, so each click and search does good. And though our team is pretty dependent on coffee, we only buy from Fairtrade coffee suppliers, grinding their coffee within 5 miles of our office, and our granules are composted.
